It’s been estimated that there are 200 million Americans who would like to write a book, and then go on to have it published. But let’s face it, most of the 200 million will never actually get to see their work being published. Why is that, do you suppose? Because almost everything in life which is not easy to do comes down to support; receiving support from the right people at the right time.
Many people prefer to dream rather than do. They may say “I want to write a book” but they will not do anything about it. Some of them will actually write the book, but when the time comes to take the next step and to publish it, something will stop them. They may feel overwhelmed by the prospect of having to find someone to publish for them, and may be scared of getting rejection letters or no support from their friends and family. How many of you have been told, “It’s all a dream. You’re never going to be able to have a book published.”
That can be enough to put anyone off from making the next important step which could result in the long-held dream about getting a book published. The bottom line is that everything comes down to support, and if you don’t get that support, it can be too easy to give up on your dreams. But why should you? Who has the right to make you feel that way? If you do want to publish your work, then you need to get the right support. Find that support from the best place for you to give you a greater chance of succeeding in your chosen field. The support you need could come from a friend, a college or a publishing coach. It is up to you.
Find someone that will hold you accountable for your own goals, and someone who can help to guide you away from the places where you’re most likely to get stuck. According to my personal experience, most people get stuck either around technical aspects or otherwise have fears which are holding them back. Those fears could include the fear of failure, fear of success or any other fear you hold into. Do you want to be the one who let their fear lead the way into the future, or the one who was smart enough to ask for help and support? There is nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it; that’s how we all manage to get ahead in this world.
So, you may ask yourself, what’s the best thing to do next, and where do you go from here? I can summarize that in three short sentences, in order of action you should now take to move you forward:
- Make a decision to publish your book. Once you’ve made the decision, don’t let anything stand in your way, or allow yourself to become an obstacle. We can all have the tendency to be our own worst enemies and almost talk ourselves out of making the next necessary move in life.
- You’ve made the decision, so now you need to find support from wherever or whoever is best for you.
- Now’s the time for you…the time to act on your decision. It will be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made. When you see your name on your book, there is no greater sense of achievement!
